GMO Payment Gateway is the strategic management company; GMOVenturePartners is the fund manager.
The fund was established with 15 million USD.
The investment target is payments companies throughout Asia, especially in Southeast Asia.

It is not a large fund, but we are focused.
We have passion, hope, and faith in our industry.
We know there are innovative, disruptive, high-potential entrepreneurs and teams in payments.

Unlike traditional VCs, we don’t just make financial investments.
We export successful ideas and use cases from Japan and provide the support needed by startups as they accelerate.
We also identify synergies between our LPs and portfolio companies and among our portfolio companies across Asia.
We are helping to build a full-scale payment industry, aiming for an open ecosystem, that spans the region, drawing on our experience in Japan.
Not only first in Japan but first in the world.

Payments are the platform on which economic activity can be built.
The payments system is infrastructure essential to growth in Asia.
We contribute to the payments industry, we are helping to build the Asian e-commerce industry, too.

If you have the same hopes that we do, join this fund.
If you feel the same passion that we do, join this industry.
If you have the same faith that we do, join this platform.

Coda provides ...

Coda is a mobile-first alternative payment channel aggregator in Southeast Asia. Coda helps mobile and desktop game publishers and other digital content providers monetize users that don't have a traditional payment card. Coda's specialty is direct carrier billing, allowing customers of the largest MNOs in Southeast Asia--including Globe in the Philippines, Indosat in Indonesia, and SingTel in Singapore--to make purchases using their existing pre- or post-paid mobile accounts. Coda also operates Codashop, where customers across Southeast Asia can purchase Steam Wallet Codes using a range of alternative payment channels.

Neil Davidson

“Coda Payments is revolutionizing mobile payments.

The company has become popular in a short span of time as it allows users who do not have a credit or debit card to purchase digital goods—such as media, game credits, and information services—starting in Indonesia, a huge but underbanked country.

This investment is the first by GMO Global Payment Fund, which was established to invest in promising startups in Southeast Asia—which includes some of what are expected to be the fastest growing markets in the world over the next ten years—led by innovative teams who are passionate about helping to build a robust payments infrastructure for the region. Coda meets all these criteria, and so we are delighted to be leading this financing round.

Using these funds, we expect the company to increase the number of its carrier connections and expand outside of Indonesia.”
